"For this piece, I aimed to capture the striking beauty of deep purples and blues, using the Camas plant as my inspiration. I consider this plant one of the many wonders of our local community. It sparked the theme for my project, and I wanted to highlight its full presence, emphasizing not just the flower but the entire plant, from the stem up, and its importance to both our community and local ecosystems. The background also plays a key role, by adding depth to the piece to reflect the plantβs complexity, while drawing attention to its vibrant colors and natural flow. In terms of mediums, I used watercolor, Bristol paper, alcohol markers, pencil crayons, and paint markers. The Camas plant is significant to our community, with a preservation site located in our park, Millennium. The Kootenay Native Plant Society has recorded over 40 species of bees visiting the Camas meadow in our park. This plant is not only edible but was also sacred to the First Nations peoples who once lived on this land." - Indiara Faucher
